Legislation Advances that Could Ban All New Semiautomatic Handguns in New York! (5/27/2010)
Please Stand Up and Make Your Voices Heard!

Assembly Bill 6468C, sponsored by State Assemblywomen Michelle Schimel (D-16), passed the Assembly and the Senate version of the bill, Senate Bill 6005, sponsored by State Senator Eric Schneiderman (D-31), is currently pending in the Senate Codes Committee. Both bills require that semiautomatic pistols manufactured or delivered to any licensed dealer in the state of New York be capable of micro-stamping and establish fines for violations of this requirement.

Micro-stamping is an unproven technology that would require unique identifying information from the firearm, including the make, model, and serial number, to be etched into the firing pin and breech face in such a manner that those identifiers are imprinted on the cartridge case upon firing. The technology can easily be defeated with common household tools, has no public safety value, and adds substantially to the cost of the firearm. If passed, the availability of semi-automatic handguns in New York could be in jeopardy, as manufacturers simply may choose not to build or sell firearms for purchase in the state, which is the goal of this legislation.

If allowed to become law, this bill will serve as a ban on all new semiautomatic handguns in New York State! It is imperative that you contact your lawmakers and ask their position on A6468C and S6005. Also, respectfully urge them to oppose these bills.

137 Anti-Gun Bills vs 52 Pro-Gun Bills Proposed for 2010 (3/26/2010)
Please see the NYSRPA and SCOPE Legislative Reports linked above for the details of these bills.
Most of these bills will likely never make it out of committee, but there are several that are likely to advance to the NYS Assembly.
If the Assembly passes them, they are then sent to the Senate for a vote.
If passed in the Seante you can be sure that Governor Paterson will sign them into law.
Please contact your representatives and urge them to VOTE NO on the Anti-Gun Bills and VOTE YES for the Pro-Gun Bills.

Supreme Court to Hear 2nd Amendment Case (10/9/2009)
The Supreme Court will hear the monumental case of McDonald vs Chicago.
The case will address the application of the Second Amendment to the states through either the Due Process clause or the Privileges or Immunities clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The case has major implications for the legality of restrictive gun laws not only in Chicago, but also in other cities across the United States. The decision to hear the case, which will be argued later this year or early next year, gives Second Amendment advocates across America hope that this fundamental freedom will not be infringed by unreasonable state and local laws.

"The Second Amendment applies to every citizen, not just to those living in federal enclaves like Washington D.C. In the historic Heller decision, the Supreme Court reaffirmed what most Americans have known all along -- that the Second Amendment protects an individual right and that it applies to all Americans. The government should respect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens throughout our country, regardless of where they live, and NRA is determined to make sure that happens," said Wayne LaPierre, NRA executive vice president.

"It is an injustice that the residents of Chicago continue to have their Second Amendment rights denied," said Chris W. Cox, NRA’s chief lobbyist. "It’s time that the fundamental right of self-defense is respected by every jurisdiction throughout the country. It is our hope that the Supreme Court will find, once and for all, that all law-abiding Americans have the God-given, constitutionally-protected right of self-defense, no matter what city, county or state they call home."

Poughkeepsie Mayor Joins Mayors Against Illegal Guns (10/9/2009)
Poughkeepsie Mayor, John Tkazyik, has joined Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Some local mayors have joined "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" (MAIG) which was founded and is funded by activist anti-gun billionaire and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Despite its very misleading name, this national group of anti-gun mayors has lobbied Congress against national reciprocity of state Right-to-Carry permits, against much-needed reform of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), for regulating gun shows out of existence, and for repealing the Tiahrt Amendment that protects the privacy rights of law-abiding gun owners and limits disclosure of sensitive firearm trace data to protect law enforcement personnel and protect lawful gun manufacturers from bogus lawsuits.

Bloomberg created "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" as a front group to lobby Congress to oppose important pro-gun reforms and support new federal gun control restrictions. And some mayors have joined or been duped into joining this anti-gun Bloomberg crusade. If your mayor has joined MAIG, it is critical that he or she resign from this anti-gun group. You can do your part by contacting your mayor`s office today and urging your mayor to withdraw his or her MAIG membership. A number of mayors have already quit the anti-gun Bloomberg coalition and yours should be the next one to do so.

Please call, e-mail and write your mayor today and ask him or her to support law-abiding gun owners by publicly disassociating with Michael Bloomberg and "Mayors Against Illegal Guns." Help your mayor make the right choice between protecting your Second Amendment rights or continuing to be associated with those who actively oppose and undermine your firearms freedom.
