JUST BEYOND THE BASICS - A New Program for New Shooters!

Aug 31 7-9pm, Sept 17 7-9pm, Oct 16 7-9pm, Nov 28 1-3pm, Dec 28 7-9pm
"Cool! I just purchased my very first handgun.
Um... Now what?"
I cannot tell you how many times I've heard that from new members who are also new to the shooting sports.
The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course is a great start, emphasis on the word 'basic'.
The only way to really get familiar with a gun is to practice with it at one's own pace.
Many new shooters have a great support system - a friend or family member who will be with them every step of the way as they get familiar and comfortable with following the rules of gun safety, range policies and procedures, and their firearms.
Many new shooters do not have such a support system and are hesitant to come out to the range on their own.
We have a solution.
Introducing "Just Beyond the Basics" - a new program authorized by the Executive Committee designed for new shooters!
Here's how it works:
- free and open to DCPA adult members only (no guests)
- one two-hour session a month
- no need to reserve ahead of time – when you arrive, just check in with the range officers.
- no need to be there the entire time
- come as often as you wish
- bring your own firearms, ammunition, equipment - any handgun, any caliber allowed at DCPA
- all DCPA range rules and policies are in effect
- non-competitive, not timed, go at your own pace
- at least two range officers will be present to supervise and assist
In short, it is casual range time but with knowledgeable members in attendance to supervise the range and be readily available to help.
Please note the following policies:
- this will not interfere with any other scheduled structured event
- the range on which the Just Beyond the Basics program is taking place is still open to all DCPA members on a casual basis
If you are an experienced shooter and enjoy working with new shooters, please consider helping out with this program as a range officer.
If you are interested, please contact me and I will send you a list of requirements and responsibilities.
This does count towards your work hour requirement.

We will show you how SAFELY!
This Event Includes:
- Dinner
- Safety Instruction
- Use of .22 Rifles with Supervised Range Time
- Safety Equipment
- and 20 Rounds of Ammunition
Additional ammunition is available at $5 for 20 rounds.
