Organized in 1937, Dutchess County Pistol Association has a long and proud heritage.
The Association has one of the largest outdoor facilities in New York State.
The National Rifle Association awarded Dutchess County Pistol Association their most prestigious club award for noteworthy achievement -
"The Most Outstanding Club in the United States."
In 1937, eight men formed the Dutchess County Pistol Association for the purpose of properly handling small handguns, to further the sport of target shooting, to teach others to shoot, to engage in shooting matches on the range of the association, and to send teams to shoot in matches elsewhere.
The eight charter members comprised of two Secret Service agents assigned to the Roosevelt Estate, two state police officers, two City of Poughkeepsie police officers, and two civilians.
Their law enforcement background influenced what became the club logo (shield).
On July 14, 1945 DCPA became incorporated.
DCPA has about 500 members. The majority of members are in the local area, but many live throughout New York State and the United States. Although DCPA is a members' club, some activities and matches do not require membership to participate.
Monthly meetings are held on the last Friday of every month at 7:00 pm at the club house.
DCPA has a diversified competitive shooting program. Hundreds of shooters from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and other nearby states participate in these matches every year.
Other club activities include instruction courses, leagues, special programs and shooting events.
